“Sweet Home” is, at the time I’m writing this (Aug 2012), among my most recent pieces, and is highly representative of the trends and motifs that I’m currently pursuing. Unlike the the autumn blends of my earlier work, which are full of several wildly contrasting colors, I’ve been experimenting with subtle variations in tones and shades of a single color in an attempt to create a sense of depth. “Jazz” and “Warm Inside” do this with strong winter themes, while “Tranquil Grove” and “Sweet Home” offer a sense of the richness of summer. Sweet Home is the birdhouse I’ve always wanted.
“Sweet Home” runs the entire spectrum of purples and blues that have made both “Jazz” and “Warm Inside” so successful and is most often found hung as an accompaniment to either or both of these pieces.
The original piece was done using an acrylic ink paint on watercolor paper. The technique is very similar to watercolor but tends to keep more vibrant hews and dries permanently to the paper.
