“Shared Secret” is my first piece of 2013, and represents the first in a new series of child centered pieces that I’ve been dreaming of doing for quite some time. Like all mothers, I am inspired by the beauty, innocence and remarkable intuitive powers of my 4 year old daughter. She surprises me at every turn. Yet, I have only rarely tried to tap into that wonder in my art (see: Hedgehog Garden, Owl, Bunny Love) and never before with a child as the focus of the work.
*ps – I’ve had a recent brainstorm and decided to direct this series into a collection of “Wishes & Magic Moments” as seen though the eyes of women remembering when they were little people. Did you wish for a pony? Did you have a magic moment watching a spider spin a web? Share your magic moments with me and, if I can, I’ll make them into art. I hope you all (both new and long running fans of my work) will enjoy this new direction (for as long as it lasts), because I am having so much fun doing it.
“Shared Secret” has all the warm autumn colors that are reminiscent of my early Feminine Spirit series, but with a new “heart of a child” feel. Though appropriate for almost a any room, Shared Secret is especially at home in the bedroom of a little girl. Preferably one who hugs trees and dreams of talking to animals.
The original piece was done using an acrylic ink paint on watercolor paper. The technique is very similar to watercolor but tends to keep more vibrant hews and dries permanently to the paper.
