You might say that "Rising Fall" came to me in a vision. You see, BC autumns are unmistakingly beautiful; more so due to the extraordinary variety of wildlife that is active in plain view of ordinary suburban life (in the spring and fall I see bears strolling through my neighborhood about once a week). In my earliest days here, this dramatic lifestyle change impacted me in powerful ways and filled me with imagages of a vibrant living Earth unlike anything I had imagined before. Something as simple as flock of birds simultaneously rising from a near leafless tree, leaving it looking naked by comparison, filled me with the kind of childlike awe for nature's splendor that I remembered having as a child. Pieces like "Rising Fall" just poured out of me. I often felt as though they were painting themselves.
"Rising Fall" is a simple expression of autumn's wonders through colour and imagery and can be hung as a beautiful compliment to almost any of my many autumn season pieces. In my own home, however, there is one piece that I just fits: "Morning Glory".
The original piece was done using an acrylic ink paint on watercolor paper. The technique is very similar to watercolour but tends to keep more vibrant hews and dries permanently to the paper.
