The creation of the “Owl” is one of those moments of magic in my career. Having just given birth to my daughter, I was often looking for themes that I thought might appeal to her in her younger years, but also be attractive to adults. I liken the feeling I was going for to a Disney Pixar film. It’s for kids, but adults get such a kick out of it that they’d watch it again. The owl is, perhaps, my best attempt at achieving this, though it seems adults may enjoy it even more than the kids do.
The Owl couples well with many of the autumn colored pieces in the collection, such as “Rising Fall” or “Can’t Resist” but is especially well suited with “Bunny Love” and “Graceful Thunder” when designing for a child’s room.
The original piece was done using an acrylic ink paint on watercolor paper. The technique is very similar to watercolor but tends to keep more vibrant hews and dries permanently to the paper.
