Dab of inspiration

"Dab of Inspiration" has a funny story surrounding its creation. I was in the midst of the worse creative slump, where for months I didn't really like anything I was working on, when Mike (my husband) and I had what he calls a 'tiff'. It ended with him storming out and going to a friend's to watch the hockey game. Alone, and charged with energy, I picked up a brush and just started. When Mike came home, I had already gone to bed, but sitting on the stairs waiting for him were no less than three finished paintings. The first of those three was "Dab of Inspiration" and for about two months following, I felt as though I could do no wrong with a brush in my hand. Sometimes you just need to let it out.

"Dab of Inspiration" finds its closest color match in the collection in the form of "Gift of Peace", but also hangs well with many of the deeper blue pieces in the collection, such as "Four Moons", "Deep Down" and "Moorish Garland".

In my home, Dab is paired with Deep Down over the fireplace. Choosing the right frame for it was crucial to bring it together with the room, but I couldn't be happier. Like most of the birds in my collection, Dab has the rustic feel that makes it a perfect fit for most cottages ad country kitchens.

The original piece was done using an acrylic ink paint on watercolor paper. The technique is very similar to watercolor but tends to keep more vibrant hews and dries permanently to the paper
